Just Relax

Relaxing during a run is a really common technique.  Even as much as you hype yourself up for your run, relaxing can do just as much good!  Whether you need to mix it up or use it to refocus, you relaxing and meditating during a run is beneficial.  Not everything needs to be at 110% effort or the heavy metal music blaring through your ear phones.  Try a tempo song every 20 mins in your running mix to let your brain and your body know that it’s time to switch gears and relax for a minute.

Try it out – you might be surprised what happens.

  • Great post, again!
I disagree about the music part- but that's just me. If I don't have music that gets me amped I get bored easily and when I am bored I feel like quitting. I need to think and hear loud, fast stuff usually, but your overall point is absolutely right.

I used to run all tense physically and my body would waste a lot of precious energy because of it. I learned to be mentally amped but still physically loose. Sometimes I have to remind myself to shake out my hands a little and relax my upper-body and just let the run happen. Martial artists and boxers learn this quickly. It just took me a while longer!
